Pick one trade and build the whole thing

The strongest idea on this hub is narrowness. Rather than build a general tool and hope an industry adopts it, these companies pick a single trade and build everything it needs.

Quipli does inventory, scheduling and the customer-facing website for equipment rental businesses. Yardsmart does the same for self-service auto recyclers, Book Salon for salons down to the payment terminal, and FieldEquip for asset-heavy field service operations.

The industries nobody had digitised

Several of these profiles are worth reading purely for what they reveal about how business still runs. Aviation parts buyers were working from directory listings, emails and fax machines. Lightyear launched the first platform for buying and managing telecom networks online, in a trillion-dollar industry. Everblue found the same gap inside state government licensure.

Approvals are the universal bottleneck

Where the vertical companies go deep, a second group goes wide on the one process every company has. Approveit automates approvals and task management for finance, HR and IT teams. WorkDone.ai works one level up, using AI to decide which processes are worth automating at all, and Array targets the paper form that starts most of them - including where there is no connectivity.
