Sensational Girls Network empowers the mother/daughter bond

What is Sensational Girls Network?

Sensational Girls Network is a unique business, as the mother daughter bond is one of the strongest connections two people can share. SGN empowers the current and future generation of women to “Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful” through connection at retreats & workshops, while learning Tips & Tools from a trusted mentor.

Current industry landscape

Sensational Girls Network is the only mother daughter retreat in North Qld. There are only a few in Australia, and SGN has a different vibe to competitors. SGN encourages women to embrace their fun and feminine side, whereas most retreats are about alternative health (yoga, meditation, healthy food etc). There are not too many businesses that offer the range of services that SGN does. SGN provides 3 ways to promote positive mental health through mother daughter retreats/workshops, Sensational Girl Power workshops, and the Eternity Heart Network Online annual membership for Mums. Julie facilitates tropical weekend retreats held at a resort on Magnetic Island, Townsville, North Qld. SGN also provides shorter connection experiences for ages 5 and up. Julie facilitates tween workshops focusing on self love, positive body image, resilience, positive, mindset, strategies to deal with emotions and anxiety, gratitude, and finding their purpose and passion in life.

The birth of the company

SGN was established by a Mum and teacher who was inspired, by her 12 year old daughter and students, after noticing the decline in mental health, and especially anxiety about their appearance and their worth. Julie has studied Health and Wellness, because the suicide and self harm rates of girls are climbing alarmingly. Julie's research into teen psychology has shown that the biggest protective factor for a young woman's mental health is connection and an adult who they can talk to. SGN aims to strengthen the mother’s bond with their daughter to set her up for success in life, as well as helping Mums with their self care and strategies for parenting a tween daughter. Julie’s closeness with her own Mum gave her the desire to want a great relationship with her daughter, and have a close relationship into adulthood. Julie also recognised the need for different parenting strategies for a daughter, after having 2 sons.

The SGN mission

SGN’s mission is to help girls become strong and successful women who feel unconditional love, resulting in self belief through a deeper connection with their mother and a support network. And to empower Mums with self love, tips and tools to value their unique worth, and be the woman and Mum they want to be.

SGN fb page grew to hundreds of likes in only a couple of months, and now has 1.5K followers on fb and about 1K on Insta, as women can resonate with this concept, either being a daughter or a mother themselves. SGN has been featured in That's Life magazine when only the business was only a year old, and was featured on the front page of the Townsville Bulletin Eye magazine in the first month of launching. Julie also won Best Pitch at Startup Onramp Founders Course late last year.

Julie is launching the Eternity Heart Network for Mums on 14th Feb as Mums need self love and self care, as they are the heart of the family and are often stressed and burnt out juggling careers and their family. SGN is designing an app to reach mothers and tween/teen daughters to give them a course of strategies to assist them, and daily affirmations to build their self worth.

Customer experience

A mother and her 15 year old daughter came to an SGN tropical retreat last year at the beautiful relaxing Magnetic Island, and both stated that their relationship was strained. During the weekend they enjoyed meaningful discussions, quizzes, skincare, High tea, makeup, affirmation board, Zumba, making a gift for one another, fun competitions etc. At the end of the weekend, the mother and daughter’s feedback was very positive.

“You’ve done such a great job Julie! I’ve loved it all! Fantastic activities, so many laughs: the program is great. You are an inspiration for building a strong connection with my daughter.” (Mum of 15 year old)

“I needed more bonding time with my Mum, our relationship was strained. It meant a new start and made it better with laughing and I felt more comfortable with her.” (15 year old daughter)

About the team

As SGN is only in the first stages, Julie is the solo founder and facilitator. Julie has a heart for others and believes that Mums are the heart of the family. Sadly too many women doubt their self worth, too many Mums are feeling overwhelmed juggling careers and families, and too many of our young girls are succumbing to suicide and self harm, and have low self esteem. Julie has had dozens of local businesses get behind the SGN concept and offered discount vouchers in the goody bags for Mums and daughters to spend more quality time together. Julie has also had dozens of other businesses/individuals volunteer their time to offer their services and guest speaking at workshops for mothers and daughters. Eg. Chocolate decorating, fitness, floral bouquet making, Nigerian migrant, martial arts, cupcake decorating, female race car driver etc.

“We all need a safe haven where we can connect, seek support and peace, celebrate our successes and raise each other up in a space where there is no judgement. Women connecting together; who celebrate, heal and empower one another.” Julie Vigor (founder & facilitator of SGN)
