Empowering patients, enhancing care

What Healio does

Healio is developing a patient-centric mobile application designed to educate, guide and support hospital patients on long-term healthcare journeys such as cancer, cardiac rehab, orthopaedic pre and rehab, mental health and more.

The Current Landscape

Over the past 5 years we’ve seen significant growth in the digital health sector. This is largely attributed to the rising demand for personalised, efficient, and accessible solutions that can deliver improvements in the areas of health outcomes and patient experience.

Competitors typically exist in the form of apps that are only designed to serve a single use case (e.g. diabetes app, cancer app, cardiac rehab app, etc.) however hospitals are becoming increasingly concerned about the growing number of siloed apps for patients and staff to learn and manage. In contrast, Healio offers a highly flexible and scalable solution, that enables hospitals to deliver multiple care programs for patients across various clinical groups and services simultaneously.

For hospitals, this means a single contract with a single vendor. And a single software platform for staff and patients to learn and manage.

Company Birth Story

Healio’s Founder and CEO, Josh Farrington is a leading figure in the Australian digital health space, who over the years, has honed his skills in product management, operations and user-centric design, culminating in an ability to create digital health products that resonate with both patients and healthcare professionals.

In 2023, Josh identified a gap in the market that could be addressed through the development and implementation of an intuitive, patient-centric platform to digitally engage and guide patients as they attempt to navigate their healthcare journey.

He subsequently founded Healio in late 2023 and assembled an Australian-based team to bring this vision to life.

The Solution

Healio is a flexible patient engagement platform that provides hospital patients with direct access to clinical expertise, self- management tools and support resources, all in the palm of their hands.

Using the Healio app, patients can monitor their progress towards treatment or rehabilitation goals, keep track of appointments, engage with the care team in real time and report symptoms and quality of life metrics back to the hospital. The Healio content library enables patients to access evidence-based materials designed to bolster their understanding of their diagnosis, care pathway and treatment options.

Meanwhile, trained hospital clinicians and coordinators monitor patient progress, adherence and alerts from the Healio portal, accessed via a web browser.

Healio places patients at the centre of their care and drives improvements in the areas of patient engagement and health literacy, leaving them less anxious and better equipped to navigate their healthcare journey.

The Healio platform is currently in development and is scheduled for release in late 2024 where it will be made available to Australian hospitals on an annual subscription basis. Healio also has plans to introduce the platform to a number of international markets in the future.

A founder quote

Patient engagement isn't just about involving individuals in their care. It's about empowering them to be active partners in their health journey
